I saw this somewhere recently and to be honest I don’t remember where. The steps listed below are simplistic in nature but lead to a very good analysis of your marketing campaign.

List five problems your product or products solve. Which of these problems are most important to your target audience?
Is there a problem your product solves that no other products do?
Do you have a UNIQUE value proposition that will help you stand out in the crowd? (This could be being better targeted, more up-to-date, faster, more reliable, safer, biased, unbiased, etc.). What do you do better than anyone else?
List ten terms or phrases your target audience would search for to find your products.
Calculate the time you spend prospecting clients and the value of that time.Calculate the money you will save if you cut that time in half by ranking well for a few of the terms you listed.

The Myth: Free Traffic For Your Website

There is this myth going around that you can get free traffic to your website. In fact you can find many books on the subject and some of them are very good. They show you many ways to drive traffic to your website without paying a dime out of your pocket.

I have to laugh though because every one of these free resources has a cost involved. None of them are really free. If you don’t think of your time as money you are not thinking right.

Article marketing is the most recommended “free” method for driving traffic to your website. If I ever make the mistake of calling this free traffic, please let know.

If it takes you half an hour to write the article and you’re worth $20/hour at whatever work you do, that article really cost you $10 to write..

With all that said article marketing is an effective way to promote your website. Just know that it will take your time and time is money.

Changes on Ebay

Last week I wrote about becoming a power seller. Sorry to say with eBay’s recent changes that information no longer makes a difference. I was going to put one of the many ebooks about how to become a power seller in my new store but not now. You might as well trash any ebook you have that says you can become a power seller by first purchasing your way to 100 ratings of 100%.

Sellers can no longer leave feedback for buyers. Not good news for us sellers. I will discuss this later as I started with the 90 day power seller and I want to put it to rest.

Becoming a power seller really involves just five things:

1. Have a product that other people want

2. Make sure your descriptions are accurate and not misleading

3. Do not overcharge for shipping. This is very irritating to a buyer.

4. Ship promptly

5. Communicate, Communicate, Communicate

I can not stress enough how much communication means to an eBay buyer. They expect you to notify them when their item has shipped and provide a tracking number. If they ask a question answer quickly and honestly. If you have a problem with the shipment notify them immediately. Don’t wait on them to ask you where their item is.

How to Become a Powerseller on eBay

You will have acces on this site to many reviews of ebooks and software. However there is one topic that I have seen with many different names that just makes me angry. It is a blatant attempt to get money for nothing. That is any version of how to BECOME A POWER SELLER ON EBAY. I am going to give that secret away right here. I am also going to put it in my eBay store for $0.99 cents.

It is really simple. What they actually tell you is that you need to become a power buyer. They tell you to look for the very lowest priced items, usually ebooks, and purchase until you achieve 100 positive feedbacks. Oh, and you have to do this from 100 different venders. Once you have achieved 100 feedbacks with a 100% positive rating it will be easy for you to make sales as people will now trust you. There is some truth in that but you haven’t yet learned how or what to sell. You still need to find a product or products that you can make money with. Below is taken directly from eBay.

The criteria for being a PowerSeller - consistent sales volume, 98% total positive Feedback, eBay marketplace policy compliance, an account in good financial standing, and beginning in July 2008, detailed seller rating (DSRs) of 4.5 or higher in all four DSRs - item as described, communication, shipping time, and shipping and handling charges. If a seller no longer complies with any one of the above requirements, they are removed from the program.
